The dealership reprogrammed the car which helped some initially (the car still shuddered and I was told that my daughter would have to drive it hard).

You could imagine how upsetting this situation was for my daughter as well as myself. The transmission was slipping so badly that I was almost unable to get it onto the trailer. Unfortunately, I had to trailer the Focus back with me the day after I gave it to my daughter. This is the first Ford that has ever given us trouble. We are a Ford family and currently have this lemon (Ford Focus), 2016 F250 Platinum, 2014 Ford Mustang, and a 2011 Ford Escape XLS. I bought this used 2015 Ford Focus for my daughter's high school graduation. I personally will never purchase a Ford again, as I feel they were sneaky, dishonest, and exercised poor workmanship on this 'repair.' Transmission repairs are EXPENSIVE, and buying a car with repeated transmission issues (much like the Ford Focus), will only cause headache and much expense. As this is a repeated issue, and Ford refuses to fix it, I advise everyone against purchasing this vehicle. It is unrealistic for clutches to only last for one year, but even then, they would not replace them. I was told that even though the shudder/hesitation was out of spec, that nothing could be done since it was out of warranty (even though they admitted they had installed bad clutches to my face). Ford's "extended warranty" on the clutches was a one time use warranty, and I was never informed of that until they needed to be replaced again. I took it back to the dealership as they were still relatively new for clutches, and was told that the warranty on the repair was exceeded. It became so problematic that the car began to stall frequently and hesitate on acceleration. Initially it was covered under an "extended warranty." However, a year (and only 10,000 miles) later, the same issue occurred again. The clutches in this car needed to be replaced at 5 years (52,000 miles).
